Hunter / Jumper Shows

Pearl Templin, a longtime horse show coordinator and manager died of lung cancer at her home in Scottsdale, Arizona on April 27th, 2009. Pearl was an icon in the Hunter Jumper world of horse showing in Arizona.
Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, she married horse trainer, Bud Templin in 1947 and headed for California, where their car broke down in Phoenix, as Pearl tells it, and they never got to Calif. Bud established a huge horse boarding and training business, called Windsor Square Stables and Pearl ran it. Pearl was instrumental in establishing the Arizona Horse Exhibitors Association in Phoenix which she served on the board as President for a number of years, and later helped create the Arizona Hunter Jumper Association. She also helped establish and run such shows as the U.S.E.T. Benefit Horse Show, the Easter Seal Benefit Horse Show, and the Pine Cone Classics in Flagstaff.
Her pride and joy were her Gold Star Schooling Shows, which she owned and operated for the past 30 years. She loved seeing the young, beginner riders, who started showing at Gold Star, grow up and become some of the state's best riders and Champions. She was known as the" Gold Star Lady".
At the 2008 AHJA Awards Banquet, Pearl was the first recipient to be awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award, which she was especially proud of. She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Templin, longtime Hunter Jumper trainer in the valley.
